New Edinburgh Hotel Openings

Edinburgh’s eclectic hotel sector never fails to impress us but it just got way more exciting, if that’s even possible, with a trio of new offerings either up and running or about to open their fabulous doors. Over the coming weeks, we will spotlight some of these new kids on the block and share what excites us most!

First up, with its New York vibe, jaw-dropping panoramic views and 24-hour service culture, you could be forgiven for thinking you’d just woken up in the Big Apple. In which case, W Hotels have succeeded in their mission: redefining hospitality NYC-style.

W Edinburgh encapsulates that ethos, right in the heart of our gorgeous capital city.

Situated in the vibrant St James Quarter, amid the unrivalled architecture of Edinburgh’s Georgian New Town – and our beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site – the hotel oozes Manhattan energy and elegance. Set across three buildings around St James Square, it offers 199 rooms and 45 suites, many with outdoor terraces and breath-taking 360-degree views over the iconic Edinburgh skyline.

Highlights include: a Sound Suite recording studio, W Hotels’ first in the UK, where musicians, podcasters, DJs and artists can create works inspired by this historic city; bold, unexpected design and interiors influenced by the capital’s setting on volcanic rock; three drinks and dining options, from SUSHISAMBA restaurant encompassing the spirits of Japan, Brazil and Peru, to W Lounge reimagining Gaelic cuisine João’s Place, a secret apartment speakeasy.

The W Hotels brand, born from the 24/7 New York culture, has been breaking the mould of traditional luxury around the world for more than 20 years.  It’s currently smashing it in Auld Reekie.

We think that this contemporary hotel would be perfect for those seeking something different from the norm.  Occupying an enviable location in the city centre, there are plenty of great bars and restaurants around and here at Limitless, we know all the best spots!

We can create a bespoke programme focussing new experiences, tapping into the lesser-known highlights of this much-loved city and including special venues that remain off the beaten track.  Just as W Hotel has changed the Edinburgh skyline forever, the city itself continues to adapt and evolve, keeping a finger on the pulse of new trends.  If you think Edinburgh is nothing but history, let us show you the other side of the city.  Get in touch for more information.

Next on our new hotel spotlight is Red Carnation Hotels’ first Scottish venture at 100 Princes Street,  former home of the Overseas League. Inspired by the adventures and stories of Scottish explorers who once stayed at the prestigious address, it promises a calm retreat in the hustle and bustle of one of Europe’s most famous thoroughfares.

Scheduled to open in early spring, the hotel will offer Scottish heritage and deluxe comforts in an exclusive environment, ‘anything, anytime’ style service, a vast wine cellar, fabulous collection of whiskies and sweeping views of Edinburgh Castle.

While the restoration seeks to retain the original heart and soul of the building, the interior has been inspired by internationally-renowned designer the late Alexander McQueen. Bespoke pieces by local artisans include tartan by weaver and designer Araminta Campbell and a hand-painted mural paying tribute to the adventures of some of Scotland’s greatest explorers.

The hotel will have a residents-only Explorers’ Club which will offer guests a ‘quintessentially Scottish experience’ and signature local dishes. Guests will be able to sample from a wall with over 200 fine wines and a selection of Scottish whiskies.

With such a prestigious location and some truly jaw-dropping views, we think this this is going to be a cosy and luxurious boutique hotel where you see in the ‘wee, small hours’, dram in hand. For a small, intimate gathering, this hotel would be perfect. Why not pair it with an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour at one of our many museums, galleries or private art collections?

Continuing the whisky theme, why not blend and bottle your own whisky? Or simply enjoy a tutored tasting of some rare malts, paired with exquisite snacks. Inspired by the local artisans that contribute to the décor, why not design your own tartan or meet the artists personally for tips you can take home. Our little black book is at your disposal, get in touch to see how we can ensure your heart belongs to Scotland.

Set to swiftly follow these two spectacular new additions to Edinburgh’s hotel portfolio is The Hoxton, due to open this summer. Located in lively Haymarket, it’s a fusion of 11 Georgian townhouses comprising 214 rooms, a trattoria, small cinema and oodles of space for meetings and parties.

Billed as having a ‘chill vibe a couple of streets back from the madding crowd’, The Hoxton is a mere stone’s throw from the West End, Princes Street, Edinburgh Castle and the sporting mecca of Murrayfield Stadium.

As fans of the Hoxton brand, we are very excited about this one. With 214 rooms and a great location in Edinburgh’s West End, this is a welcome addition to the 4* market that can accommodate more sizeable groups. Just a short walk from the International Conference Centre, it is perfectly located if attending the city for a conference or event.

For slightly larger groups, embrace the buzz of the city, hand in hand with the great outdoors. Getting up into the hills and mountains – on foot, bike or 4×4 to experience some of Scotland’s exhilarating terrain before returning to the city to dinner in a cool restaurant or hitting some of Edinburgh’s amazing cocktail bars – and yes, of course we know all the hidden ones!
